Charity Raffle

Brightest Star is a local charity that supports families through the most difficult time of their life: after the loss of a child, grandchild or sibling. It was started in 2013 after Arlene learned that there was nowhere for her to access support after the sudden and unexpected death of her five-year-old son, Jack.

Brightest Star provides…

  • Free individuals & couples counselling to bereaved parents, grandparents and adult siblings at their base, Hulks Haven in Linwood.
  • Telephone support and support meetings for bereaved parents.
  • Sibling Support to children between the ages of 3 and 16 with a young person’s worker.
  • Memory boxes to hospitals and bereaved families.
  • Emergency Paediatric first aid training courses for parents and families.
  • Defibrillators to local communities.
  • Cuddle cots and Covercool systems to hospitals to allow parents to spend more time with their child in the ward after they have died.
  • iPads, covers and ipens, and arts/crafts for children to use when they are receiving treatment in the Glasgow Sick kids hospital
  • Families who are struggling financially after the loss of their child with school uniforms.
  • Christmas presents and Christmas wishes for families who have lost a child.

After many years of discussions and drawings, in 2018 Brightest Star funded a family ambulance that can accommodate parents and has extra space for the paramedics and their equipment. This ambulance cost £160,000 and covers the West of Glasgow and the Ambulance service funded two further vehicles for the North & East of Scotland.

Brightest Star receives no government funding and relies solely on donations to carry out all of these activities.

Please help us to support this extremely worthwhile charity. By taking part in our raffle on the night, and/or making a donation, your support will go a long way in helping Brightest Star meet its on-going running costs and to continue to provide much needed support.

We have some fabulous prizes to raffle on the night thanks to the generosity the following organisations.
